The cheapest pinch pleat panel in this comparison is 25 inches wide. Not the window: the panel. Half Price Drapes sells its Nomad Tan pinch pleat in two finished widths, 25 inches or 50 inches, with nothing in between. And at Two Pages, the only one of these three merchants that prints a price beside each option, the most expensive thing you can add to a curtain is not the fullest blackout lining at $89.99. It is fold memory, at $99.00.
Both numbers point the same way. A panel 25 inches wide will never close, and a panel worth $99 to hold its shape is one that gets looked at rather than used. That is a dining room, exactly: a table and six chairs stand between you and the window, so the curtain never gets reached twice a day. It is furniture. Dining room curtains and drapes are sold on light words and fabric names, and in this room neither one decides the result.
All three agree on the pleat before they agree on anything else
Three panels, three merchants, one header. The Two Pages Jawara is a pleated linen cotton, given on the brand’s own specification as 73% linen and 27% cotton at 274 gsm. The Neutral Curtains Loxley is a pleated yarn-dyed blend, 60% cotton and 40% polyester at 230 gsm, though a line lower promises “high cotton content of up to 80%”, which its own specification does not support. The Half Price Drapes Nomad Tan is a sewn pinch pleat in what the title calls Textured Faux Linen and the description, one line later, calls 100% polyester.
All three are sold as single panels. All three include the hooks, and none includes the rod.

A pinch pleat is a fold that has already been decided. The fabric arrives committed to a shape, and the only question left is what carries that shape down to the floor. Weight is one answer: at 274 and 230 gsm, both configured panels have the mass for the fold to reach the hem instead of flaring open above it. Half Price Drapes publishes no fabric weight here, and we are not estimating one. It prints the other answer instead: a weighted hem, the standard fix for a light cloth and a sensible one on a fibre that is entirely synthetic.
A step that pays off
Weight the hem on light fabric
Sew-in drapery weights at each corner and at the base of every seam.
A light panel flares at the bottom and lifts every time a door opens. Weights are a few grams and they turn a fluttering panel into a straight column. On sheers, and on anything light enough to lift in a draught, this matters more than the fabric choice.
A practical step, not a product claim. Nothing here depends on which brand you buy.
So before any of these listings says a word about light, all three have equipped the panel for standing still.
Dining room curtains and drapes exist in the sales copy, and nowhere else on the page
Two of the three name the room. Two Pages writes “Perfect Curtains for Living Room, bedroom, dining room, kids room”. Half Price Drapes writes that its 70% room darkening opacity is “suited to living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms where privacy and atmosphere both matter”, a sentence built to be reused with another percentage in front of it. Neutral names no room at all.

Underneath those sentences, nothing is cut for a dining room. No dimension, no fabric note, no fitting advice changes because of it. The closest any of the three gets is a field in the Two Pages configurator called Room Label, which the buyer fills in. The room is a shipping note.
So what this room actually asks of a window treatment has to be worked out rather than read. It is not darkness, because nobody sleeps here, and it is not screen glare. It is that a dining room window sits behind furniture. You do not stand at it. You sit eight feet from it, at the same angle, for two hours at a stretch. Whatever hangs there gets looked at far more often than it is touched, and spends nearly all its life in one position.
That is the brief none of the listings writes: this panel does not move.
“Width” means three different things, and one merchant decides it for you
Half Price Drapes sells this panel in two widths and five lengths, 25 or 50 inches wide by 84 to 144 inches long: ten combinations, and no others. Two Pages accepts any width from 12 to 240 inches and any length from 20 to 240. Neutral Curtains is the only one of the three that publishes what to do with that freedom, recommending “1.2x-2x times the final measured width”.

How much fabric a window actually needs
Two to two and a half times the width of the rod, in fabric, for a gathered or pleated header.
The folds only exist because there is more cloth than window. Below two times the rod width the pleats pull flat as soon as the curtain is closed, and the panel reads as a hung sheet rather than as a curtain. This is the single most common reason a room's curtains look cheap when every individual choice was sound.
Measurable geometry rather than a product claim. Hold it against your own window before you trust it.
Run it on a 60 inch window. Two Half Price Drapes panels at 50 inches give 100 inches of cloth, 1.66 times the window: inside Neutral’s recommended band, at the bottom of it. That is a dressed window, and in a dining room it is usually the right answer. Two panels at 25 inches give 50 inches of cloth for 60 inches of glass, less fabric than there is window. They can stand at the sides and can never be drawn. At $38.40 they read as a cheap curtain; they are a decorative panel, and the difference turns up the first evening someone reaches for them.
That $38.40 is the smallest of ten sizes and $101.99 the largest. The struck-through $95.99 above it is permanent, so it is an anchor rather than a discount, and not a consistent one: on the 25 by 144 size it falls to $84.99 while the price rises to $50.99.
The three prices cannot be lined up, because they do not cover the same things. $79.99 at Two Pages carries neither header nor size. $85.99 at Neutral is a base with the pleated header already in the listing and add-ons excluded. Half Price Drapes is quoting a finished panel.

Which brings the honest objection to everything above. Plenty of dining rooms face a street, and in those the curtain really does get closed after dark. If that is your room, width is not a decorative decision and 1.2x is not enough. The trade convention above is stricter than Neutral’s floor for exactly that reason: it describes a curtain that closes, and a panel bought at 1.2x will never be one.

Read down the Two Pages column and the order of the prices is the interesting part. A privacy liner starts at $39.99. The fullest blackout and insulation combination, which the brand rates at 100% shading, is $89.99. Fold memory is $99.00. On this listing, holding the shape costs more than removing all the light.

Nobody ties that to a room, but it is a dining room spec if anything is. A panel opened and closed daily resets its folds through use. A panel that hangs still for three years keeps the shape it was given, and that shape is what sits in view over dinner. Whether $99 is worth paying is a fair question. What matters is that only one of these merchants lets you ask it, which is also why the Neutral panel, the best documented on fullness, is the hardest to cost.

In this room, lining is not about the dark
Two Pages publishes a seven step lining ladder with a shading rate against each step, from a 60% privacy liner at $39.99 to a 100% blackout thermal combination at $89.99. Those percentages are the brand’s own and we have measured none of them. Half Price Drapes goes the other way on the Nomad Tan and says so plainly: unlined, with its stated 70% room darkening coming from the cloth itself.
Nobody sleeps in a dining room, so where the darkness comes from is a bedroom question. After dark a shading rate buys one thing here, not being on display from the street with the lights on, and for that the gap between 75% and 100% matters far less than it sounds.
There is a better reason to line a panel here, and Two Pages writes it in its care section rather than its sales copy: natural cotton linen “oxidises and fades with daylight exposure, especially in dark-colored curtains”, and the brand recommends a blackout liner to slow that down. That is a fabric argument, not a light one, and in a room whose window takes sun all day and whose panel never moves out of it, it is the argument that applies.
So the lining decision inverts. Buy it for the cloth rather than the dark, and on a pale fabric you may not need it at all.
All three say the same thing about cleaning, and the answer is no
Two Pages: dry-clean only, with a warning on the same page that steaming and drying “may cause slight dimensional changes” on a panel whose published length tolerance is already one inch. Neutral Curtains: “Dry clean.” Half Price Drapes: “The curtains should be dry cleaned only”, word for word the sentence it prints on its linen, its polyester and its velvet alike.

This is the room where food is served, so it is the room where a panel is most likely to be marked, and all three have ruled out the washing machine, for reasons that follow the construction rather than the fibre. Taking a panel down over a dining table means moving the table first. And the allowances stack: an inch of length tolerance from manufacture, plus a dimensional change the brand says its own recommended cleaning can cause, both landing on a hem that cannot be let down.
That decides the hem. In this room a curtain that clears the floor lives better than one that breaks on it, and a panel that puddles collects what comes off the table. The published hems differ enough to matter: 1.5 inches on the Jawara, 3 to 3.5 inches on the Loxley, weighted on the Nomad Tan.
Three questions to send before you order
Almost nothing this page had to establish was printed on a spec sheet, so finish with the three questions that get it out of the merchant.
- What is the finished width of one panel, and what rod or track width do you recommend it for? A width is only a number until you know whether two of them can meet.
- Is the pleat included in the price you are showing me, or billed on top? Three merchants, three answers, and the price on screen does not say which.
- What holds the fold on this panel: the fabric weight, a weighted hem, or a paid option? It is the property this room consumes, and no listing presents it as one.
A dining room curtain earns its keep standing still. Buy it that way.
Questions people ask before ordering
How wide should dining room curtains be? Neutral Curtains recommends 1.2x to 2x the measured width. The low end dresses a window it will never close; the high end is what a curtain you draw needs.
Is a 25 inch wide panel enough for a curtain? Not to close one. Two give 50 inches of cloth, less than a 60 inch window. Half Price Drapes offers 25 or 50 inches and nothing between.
Do dining room curtains need a blackout lining? Not for darkness, since nobody sleeps here. The one published reason to line is Two Pages’: slowing the fading of a cotton linen left in daylight.
