One Rail, Whichever Listing You Open
Start with the part that does not change. Across the three motorised listings checked at Two Pages and the three plain listings of the same fabrics, the head rail is published at identical dimensions every time: aluminium, 3 1/8 inches high by 2 15/16 inches deep, on a bracket 1 9/16 inches high by 2 15/16 deep. Same four smart home ecosystems, Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and SmartThings. Same choice of a one channel or a fifteen channel remote, and choosing fifteen channels does not move the total by a cent.

That rail is the whole geometry of a roller shade. A roller shade does not gather its fabric in folds; it winds it onto a tube, and the tube lives in a cassette that sits at the top of the window whether the shade is up or down. The glass you give up is therefore permanent and all of it is at the head: close to three inches of depth across the top of the opening, and nothing at the sill. That is the opposite trade from a shade that stacks at both ends, and it is what decides whether this one fits inside the reveal or has to hang on the wall in front of it.

Four inches of extra minimum width is not a detail on a narrow window. A bathroom sash or a galley kitchen window under 22 inches wide leaves the catalogue completely, because the motorised lift will not accept the order. Twenty inches of extra maximum drop works the other way: a tall stairwell window or a patio slider past 98 inches has exactly one option here for a single uninterrupted shade, and it is the motorised one. There, the motor is not comfort. It is the only way to cover the opening in one piece.
Then there is depth, and this is where the two doors first contradict each other. The plain cordless listing publishes a minimum inside mount depth of 2 1/2 inches, and reserves 4 inches for a flush fit. The motorised listing of the same fabric publishes 4 inches flat. Same rail, same bracket, same published dimensions, two different answers to the only question a shallow reveal asks: a window with 3 inches of usable depth is told yes by one page and no by the other, for hardware that arrives identical.

Measure the usable depth of the reveal first, then pick between a manual, corded or motorised lift. The lift is what the depth has to swallow.
A shade hangs off a headrail, and the headrail is the part that has to fit inside the reveal. Adding a motor, a tube or a cassette makes that rail deeper, so the same fabric on the same window can fit as a manual shade and not fit as a motorised one. Decide the lift after you know the depth and you choose freely; decide it first and the tape measure overrules you after the order is placed.

Two Listings, One Motor
The roller shade collection holds sixteen listings: six carry the word Motorized, nine are the plain cordless pages, and the last is a fabric booklet.
Read the fabric codes rather than the titles and the arrangement becomes clear. The six motorised listings cover 28 fabric codes between them. The nine cordless listings cover 93. All 28 also exist on a cordless listing, and 65 cordless codes have no motorised listing anywhere. The motorised half of the shelf is not a range. It is a subset, and a small one.

The titles do not survive the check either. One motorised listing, sold as a sheer light filtering shade, carries twelve codes drawn from eight different fabric families, including room darkening ones. Another gives one figure, 43.79 dollars, to codes that the cordless listings sell at two separate floors, 41.39 and 49.89. So a shopper filtering on the word sheer can end up configuring an opaque fabric, and a shopper comparing headline figures is comparing a flattened number against two real ones.
There is a quieter fact underneath all of this. On the three plain listings checked here, the lift step is not a label but a choice, and it offers Cordless (Manual) and Cordless (Motorized). The motor is available from the ordinary page. Each lift even carries its own size step, so switching between them wipes the width and drop you already typed, which is the first visible sign that these are not two products at all.
If your colour exists only behind the plain door, which it does for 65 of the 93 codes, that door will still sell you the motor.

On fabric code M127-2, a boutique blackout: 227.38 dollars with the manual lift, 301.88 with the motorised lift from the same page, and 440.28 from the listing whose title says Motorized.

The first pair says the motorised listing costs 138.40 dollars more than the same motor ordered next door. The second and third say it costs 147.19 and 148.99 dollars less, and on the waterproof fabric the motorised listing even undercuts the manual one. What does that gap buy on the window? Nothing. Same rail, same bracket, same fabric code, same four ecosystems, same remote. The difference is not visible from any point in the room. It is visible only on the order summary, and only if you opened both pages.

On the plain listings the motor is at least a named line: the motorised lift is priced at 153.99 dollars, and the manual lift, which is not optional, at 39.99. On the listings titled Motorized there is no motor charge at all. The lift step has a single value and adds nothing.
A measure worth keeping

If a merchant sells a motorised version of a shade as a separate product page, configure your exact window on both that page and the plain page of the same fabric, and compare the two totals before you choose.
A separate listing is not a separate mechanism. It is a separate price sheet, and it carries its own size table, its own colour list and sometimes its own minimum reveal depth for what is physically the same motor and the same head rail. Nothing on either page announces which of the two is cheaper at your size, because neither page publishes the table that produces the total. The starting figures do not settle it either: the one that looks lower on the category page can end up higher once a real width and drop go in, and the direction can reverse from one fabric to the next at the same merchant on the same day. Two minutes in each configurator is the only way to know which door you should have used, and it is the last moment at which the answer is still free.

The One Thing Neither Listing Publishes
Subtract each published floor from each total read on screen and you get what the size step charged at 30 by 36 inches. On the motorised boutique listing, 396.49 dollars. On the two other motorised listings, 103.00. On the motorised route of the plain listings, 98.00. That is the whole explanation for the reversal above, and it is a subtraction anyone can repeat, not a rate card anyone published.

Because none of these pages publishes its size table. The figure on a category page belongs to the smallest window the listing will accept, and nobody owns that window. So a budget cannot be built from a listing page at all. It can only be built by putting your own width and drop through each configurator, which takes two minutes and stays free until the basket.
The same silence shows up on the fabric. Code M125-1 is published as 30% polyester and 70% PVC on the cordless listing, and as 100% polyester on the motorised listing of the same code, the same day. We are not going to decide which is right: both sentences are on the merchant’s own pages, and the honest thing to report is that they disagree. Five of the six Two Pages listings here publish no fabric weight either, so the usual fallback of comparing grams is gone.

Two Pages publishes the details: the charging port sits on the right side of the head rail, each motor ships with a 118 inch cable, a full charge takes six to eight hours, and the brand puts battery life at roughly 300 to 500 operations, which it translates into a recharge every three months or so. Those are the brand’s figures, not measurements of ours. The solar alternative is a 19.99 dollar option with a fixed 7 7/8 inch lead, described by the brand as an indoor panel that is not waterproof.
The right hand port is worth a minute of thought. If the nearest socket is on the left of the window, every recharge means a lead crossing the top of the opening, or a battery pack living on the visible side of the room. Neutral Curtains treats that as a configurator choice and lets you pick the charging side. Two Pages states which side it is and leaves it there.
The radio end matters for the same reason. The instruction on the page is to keep the cable with the yellow label at least half an inch from a metal window frame. A lead pressed flat against metal is a lead inside a shield, and the remote that answered first time starts needing a second press. None of that shows in a photograph, and none of it can be changed once the rail has been cut to your width.
Worth the twenty minutes
Decide which end the power lands on before you order, not on the ladder
Before ordering a motorised shade, stand at the window and find the nearest socket, then check which side of the head rail the charging port sits on and whether the merchant lets you choose it. Order the side that faces the socket, and keep the aerial lead clear of a metal frame.

Neutral Curtains does motorise, and does it plainly. Its Motorized Shades collection holds three listings: a roman shade, a bamboo shade and a striped bamboo shade. The motor is a named add-on at 118.00 dollars, the one channel remote is 19.90, and the Wifi hub power supply is 15.99. None of the three is a roller. The brand’s only roller shade, the Tavi, is sold with a corded lift, and its own search for motorized returns no roller at all. The answer here is a chain, at a merchant that clearly knows how to fit a motor.

Half Price Drapes does not get that far, and the shape of the absence is unusual: across the 1707 public collections of the domain, 18 are named after roller shade fabrics, BasketWeave, Batiste, Bedford, Boucle, Poplin and thirteen more, and every one returns zero products. The scaffolding of a roller line is there. The line is not.

Put the three together, against the rest of the shade and blind families, and the ordering priority changes: on a roller shade, the mechanism is checked before the fabric, because two of the three catalogues have no answer to give.
Three Ways to Order This
If your window is narrow, or your reveal is shallow. Under 22 inches of width the motorised lift is not offered, and under 4 inches of depth the motorised listing says no. Before giving up, open the plain cordless listing of the same fabric: it goes down to 18 inches of width, publishes 2 1/2 inches of depth, and sells the motor as a lift option.
If your window is tall. Past 98 inches of drop, the motorised lift is the only one that will take the order. The motor is not an upgrade you are weighing against a chain. It is the condition of covering the opening with a single shade.
If you have already chosen a colour. Sixty five of the 93 fabric codes have no motorised listing at all. Start from the code printed on the swatch rather than the title of the page, find both listings that carry it, and put your own measurements through each one.
That is the whole method, and it survives the next price change: open both listings of the same code, type your width and your drop into each, compare the totals. Not the headline figures, which are floors for a window nobody has, and not the titles, which describe the fabric less reliably than the code does.
