Seven listings here would all suit a kitchen window. On the shelf they read $12.60, $29.99, $41.99, $41.99 again, $42.99, $68.99 and $179.20. Lined up like that, it looks like a ranking.
It is not one. Put a single ordinary kitchen window behind all seven, 30 inches wide by 36 inches tall, mounted inside the reveal, and the order comes out different. The dearest listing on the shelf finishes second. The two listings showing exactly the same $41.99 finish $39.50 apart. And the lowest total of the group belongs to the one mechanism a kitchen argues hardest against.
None of those totals is an estimate. Each was read off the merchant’s own configurator on 18 September 2026, at that same size, with the same options refused. The 30 by 36 window is our reference rather than anyone’s measurement, chosen because it is roughly the opening that sits above a sink, and every figure below is priced at it.
Seven listings, seven different things being priced
Six of the seven are made to order, which means the figure on the listing is a floor. It belongs to the smallest window the listing will accept, and nobody’s kitchen window is that size.
The Loma aluminium venetian at Two Pages starts at $29.99. The Alvin Waterproof Blackout roller starts at $41.99, and the Alvin Light Filtering roller next to it also starts at $41.99, though that is the lowest of 23 colourways and three of them are $43.79. Neutral Curtains starts its Tavi roller at $42.99, and Two Pages starts its Brio zebra shade at $68.99. Half Price Drapes shows $179.20 on its Crisp White French linen roman shade, before its own calculator has been given a size.

The seventh figure is the only real price in the list. The Millstone Grey tie-up shade at Half Price Drapes is $12.60, and $12.60 is what it costs, because it exists in one ready-made size and one only: 46 inches wide by 63 inches tall.
That is already worth knowing. Forty-six inches is wider than most openings above a sink, and there is no narrower version to order, so the single honest price on the shelf is attached to the one product that cannot be fitted to the window this page is about. Every other figure here is a starting point dressed as a price.

The one that showed $29.99 does stay first, but it arrives at five times its own headline. What that spread means for a kitchen is blunt: there is no reading the category page. A listing’s position there is set by its floor, and the floors are not proportional to the totals. The only way to know which of two shades is cheaper on your window is to put your width and your drop into both configurators and compare what comes back.

What $41.99 leaves out
The $39.50 has a cause, and both pages publish it.
On all three Alvin roller shades the Lift Type step is required, and its only manual option, which Two Pages writes as Cordless(Manual), carries a fixed $39.99. The motorised alternative is $153.99. So the lowest total reachable on an Alvin roller is not $41.99 but $81.98, and the listing says as much on its own: the headline price becomes $81.98 the moment the configurator finishes loading.
The Brio zebra shade, from the same merchant, also has a required Lift Type step with a single cordless option, and charges nothing for it. The Loma venetian has no lift step at all, because it has no cordless version to offer.
In a kitchen that is not a feature comparison, it is the decision. A window above a sink or a worktop run is reached across rather than stood at, so a lift with nothing hanging from it is what the room asks for rather than what a buyer upgrades to. The line the shelf price leaves out is therefore the exact line a kitchen cannot do without. Comparing $29.99 with $41.99 looks like comparing two inexpensive shades. It is comparing a corded blind with a cordless one, without being told which is which.

Price your own window on every listing before you compare any of them
Open each listing you are considering, enter your exact width and drop in the merchant's own size step, and write down the figure it lands on. Compare those figures, never the ones printed on the category page.
On a made-to-order window treatment the headline figure is a floor: it belongs to the smallest window the listing will accept, and nobody's window is that size. Every merchant then builds up from that floor its own way. One recalculates the headline as you type. One leaves the headline where it is and parks the size charge on a separate option line further down, so you have to add it up yourself. One keeps a calculator below the fold. And some listings charge, as a required step, a part that the listing next to it includes. Until your own window has been through each configurator, you are holding three numbers that do not measure the same thing, and the order they fall in tells you nothing.

The cord is as long as the blind
Instead of a cordless option, the Loma listing offers an ordering step titled Cord Loop Position (equal to the shade height), which asks the buyer to pick Left or Right.
Two Pages is being unusually plain there, and the parenthesis is the specification. Order a blind 39 inches deep for the window over the sink and a 39 inch loop of cord comes with it, hanging down one side of the opening, on whichever side was ticked at checkout. Neutral’s Tavi is a corded lift as well. The Brio and the three Alvins are not.

That is the trade on offer, and nobody states it: the honest headline sits on the product a kitchen argues against, and the misleading headline sits on the mechanism a kitchen needs. Neither merchant is concealing anything. Two Pages prints the cord length inside the name of an order step, and prints the $39.99 in an option table. Both facts are simply on the far side of the number a shopper actually reads.

Where one inch costs forty dollars
The Loma publishes its size rates, and they are not a slope. Width runs from a $46.00 step at 17 inches, at $1.00 an inch, up to 39 inches, then restarts at a $111.00 step for a 40 inch blind. The drop does the same thing at the same place: a $41.00 step at 13 inches, $1.00 an inch to 39 inches, then $109.00 from 40.
Priced in the live configurator, that reads as follows. A blind 30 inches wide by 39 inches deep is $155.99. The same blind one inch deeper, at 40, is $197.99. One inch of drop, $42.00. On the width the step is $43.00.

Neutral’s Tavi has no step anywhere. Its width line starts at $61.00 for 21 inches and adds $1.00 an inch, its height line starts at $50.00 for 20 inches and adds $0.50 an inch, and both hold that rate across the whole range. Two Pages takes a third approach on the Brio: the buyer picks a headrail class first, 18 to 27, 27 to 35, 35 to 51, 51 to 78 or 78 to 90 inches, and every class carries its own rate table and its own maximum drop, which starts at 63 inches on the narrowest class.
Measure before you price anything: a window cut short to clear a counter lands near that 40 inch boundary in a way a full height bedroom window never does. Which side of it yours falls on decides whether the Loma is the cheapest listing on this page or one of the dearest, and it decides it on an inch that nothing on the page marks. It also makes an outside mount worth pricing instead of assuming: taken the other way across the boundary, the larger order can be the cheaper one and cover the window better at the same time.

With your measurement entered, put in one inch less and one inch more on each edge in turn, and watch what the total does. Do it on the width and on the drop.
Size rates are built as bands, not as slopes. Inside a band you pay a steady rate per inch; at the edge of one the listing restarts on a new step, and crossing that line can cost more than every inch you paid for inside the band below it. Nothing on the page marks where the boundary falls, and the two edges do not always break at the same place. And only now, the material
Fabric arrives here to a ranking that has already been settled, which is the right order for a kitchen and the opposite of how these listings are usually read.
Two of them publish the same composition line. Neutral’s Tavi is 100% polyester. The Alvin Waterproof is 100% polyester. Their floors are a dollar apart, $42.99 against $41.99, and at 30 by 36 they finish $8.99 apart. The Alvin Light Filtering, from the same Two Pages collection as the Waterproof, is 70% PVC and 30% polyester on all but three of its colourways, which makes it the most plastic cloth in the group and not the one carrying the moisture claim.
The others: the Loma is aluminium slats with a baked-on enamel finish, head rail and bottom rail in the same metal. The Crisp White roman is 100% linen, the Millstone tie-up 100% cotton twill with an off-white lining. The Brio publishes no composition at all, which on a shade sold for its banded light control is a real gap, and the polyester figure from the rollers beside it is not ours to borrow.

The one listing that says “kitchen”
One of the seven names the room. In the feature list of the Alvin Waterproof Blackout roller, Two Pages writes: “Waterproof and Oil-Resistant: Engineered for humid and high-moisture environments like bathrooms and kitchens – resists mold, mildew, and staining.” No standard is cited and no test is referenced. It is the brand’s sentence, and it is the only sentence of its kind across all seven listings.
The same page publishes two different minimum depths for an inside mount. Its FAQ answers 2.5 inches. Its description requires more than 4 inches. Both were on the page on the same day. The two other Alvin listings carry no 4 inch line and answer 2.5 in the same FAQ, so the disagreement belongs specifically to the listing that names the kitchen.

A kitchen window above a sink is usually the shallowest reveal in the house: tiled, sometimes cased twice, with the tap taking whatever depth is left over.
