Every percentage printed on these pages belongs to a separate layer sold behind the cloth. Two of the brands charge for that layer as an option. The third sews it in and renames the whole panel after it. So this page reads the five listings for the thing that actually decides what your living room looks like at two in the afternoon, and it is not the fibre, not the weight, and not the price.

The Same 60% Is Called Three Different Things
Half Price Drapes describes its Earl Grey French Linen panel as “Privacy Lined with an off-white backing, 60% room darkening opacity suited to living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms.” Open the Two Pages configurator on the Patti Belgian flax panel and the second rung of its lining ladder reads “Privacy, Shading Rate 60%, 117 gsm cotton white,” at $49.99 on top of the panel. Neutral publishes its own liner comparison table, and files four liners under Privacy at 60%: 90 gsm, 117 gsm, 120 gsm and 250 gsm.

Nobody here is lying. The vocabulary is unregulated and these two readings of it are both defensible. But the consequence in a room is not a matter of opinion. 60% is a level, not an hour. A layer rated there takes the glare off a bright wall and takes you out of the street’s line of sight, and it leaves the room lit. A reader who sees “room darkening” on one listing and “privacy” on another will expect two different afternoons from the same figure and get the same one.
And there is a second thing in that paragraph worth stopping on. Not one of these five listings publishes a shading figure for its face fabric. The linen, the part you actually hang, has no light number to its name anywhere.
What a Living Room Actually Asks, and at What Hour
All three merchants agree on the room. Two Pages prints “Perfect Curtains for Living Room, bedroom, dining room, kid room” on both the Patti and the Liz. Half Price Drapes writes “suited to living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms.” What they do not agree on is what the room is asking for.
A living room is a daylight room, and the panel spends most of that daylight open. The layer behind the linen is therefore a daytime decision, which is the opposite of how it gets sold. In a bedroom you pick the layer against the darkest hour you can imagine. In a living room, picking against the darkest hour buys you something you already have after sunset, and gives away the thing you were paying the fabric to do.

Pick the lining by the hour you actually use the room, not by the darkest hour you can imagine.
A published shading figure describes how much light a layer holds back at a given moment. A partial one still leaves a lit room in the middle of the day on a sunny wall; it makes the room calmer, not darker. A living room is used in daylight, so the honest question is what you want at the hours you sit in it. Buying the darkest layer available answers a bedroom's question with a living room's money, and it closes down the daylight you were paying the fabric to shape.
Trade convention and proportion, not something a merchant told us. A tape measure settles it faster than we can.
The published weights make the same point from the other direction. Two Pages puts the Patti at 248 gsm and calls the cloth medium weight, saying it “allows natural light to filter through softly.” Neutral’s Belgian flax sits at 250 gsm. At around 250 gsm and unlined, the cloth is the light-shaping layer: the weave carries light through it rather than stopping it, and that transmitted light is what gives linen its grain when the sun moves onto it. The two blends in this set are heavier, both at 350 gsm, and a panel that weight arrives with enough body to hold a fold with nothing behind it at all. Half Price Drapes publishes no weight for the Earl Grey, and we are not estimating one.

What separates the three is who holds the daylight decision. With Two Pages you hold it, with a number attached, and you can start unlined and stay there. With Neutral you hold it but cannot cost it from the page. With Half Price Drapes it is made for you at 60%, and so is the width. That last part matters more in this room than in any other: a wide living room window gets covered by multiplying 50 inch panels, not by ordering a wider one, and every panel you add brings its own price and its own centre join.

Put those two 60% rungs side by side. Ninety grams of microfiber and 117 grams of cotton, ten dollars apart, identical published rate. Neutral’s table pushes the point harder still: under Privacy at 60% it lists 90 gsm polyester, 117 gsm cotton, 120 gsm cotton-linen and 250 gsm Belgian flax. One of those liners weighs nearly three times what another does and carries the same figure.

Moving up a rung also changes what you see from the sofa, not only how much light arrives. An opaque layer hung behind a 248 gsm linen stops the light that was travelling through the weave, and that transmitted light is the whole reason the fabric reads as linen in the afternoon. Lined to 100%, the same panel becomes a linen-coloured surface. It is still a good curtain. It is no longer doing the thing you bought it for.
The Header Is a Required Option, and the Drape Is a $99 One
Two Pages lists nine header styles on the Patti, priced from $60 for a pinch pleat or a tailor pleat up to $75 for a French, triple or triple tailor pleat, and the option is required. So the $79.99 on that page is not the price of a panel. The cheapest configuration that can reach a checkout is $139.99, before the first inch of size and before any lining whatsoever. Size is then billed by the inch, across a range of 12 to 240 inches wide and 20 to 240 inches long.

The drape itself is a separate line. The same page promises a “structured drape after memory training” in its sales copy, and prices “Body Memory Shaped” at $99 per panel. A matching tieback is $19.90. Curtain hooks are included; rings and rods are not.
The Earl Grey does the reverse, and it is worth saying plainly rather than scoring a point off it. The only option on that listing is length. Its own catalogue photographs show three header treatments on the one panel, a pole pocket, back tabs, and a pole pocket with a hook belt, and it sells none of them as a choice. Neutral sits in between: hooks are included, rings are left to you, and the rod is sold separately.

A living room window is rarely one panel, so the honest way to read all of that is doubled. Two configured Patti panels put the two largest single line items somewhere other than the linen: a header and a shaping option. That is the second place a linen budget leaves the fabric, and it is the one buyers almost never see coming, because a header reads as a style question rather than a price question.

Ranking these five by price would be meaningless, because they are not five of the same object. Two of them are configurator floors that cannot be bought as shown. The Half Price Drapes ladder deserves a closer look, because it does something a price ladder is not supposed to do. By length: 84 inches at $81.60, 96 inches at $95.85, 108 inches at $98.55, and 120 inches at $89.60. The longest panel is the cheapest of the last three. Beside them the struck-through anchors climb in an orderly line from $203.99 to $223.99, so the apparent discount grows as the panel gets longer while the money you hand over does not. Those anchors are standing merchandising rather than a sale, and we do not relay them as one.

The reason this lands in a living room article and not somewhere else is that living rooms have the tall windows. 108 and 120 inches is exactly the band this room shops in. Anyone assuming that longer costs more will pay $98.55 for 108 inches on a listing where 120 inches is $89.60. Read the whole length ladder, including the lengths you think you do not need.
The One Check Before You Buy Linen for a Living Room
Find what the percentage is attached to, before you compare anything at all.
If the figure sits next to a lining choice, it is a lining spec, and the fabric on the rod is still undescribed. If it sits in the panel’s description, as it does on the Earl Grey, then the layer is already sewn in and the decision has been taken for you. Either way you are reading a number about the back of the curtain, not the front.
Then choose the rung against the hour you actually sit in the room. On a wide window, the next hundred dollars is often better spent on a second panel than on a denser layer: overlap and depth of fold do real work at every hour, and a backing only does its work by taking light away.
Worth considering instead
Buy the second panel before you buy the lining
On a wide daytime window, put the next hundred dollars into another panel rather than into a backing layer.
Two panels meeting at the centre overlap, and an overlap is what closes the gap that a single wide panel leaves down the middle. More cloth also means deeper folds, and deeper folds shade obliquely: from a sofa set back in the room, a well gathered pair reads as a soft wall even with daylight straight through the flat parts. A backing layer does something different and less reversible: it fixes what the cloth does at every hour, including the ones you liked.
This is a layout idea rather than a purchase. The panels you have will do it.

Common Questions About Linen Curtains for a Living Room
Do linen curtains need to be lined in a living room? Not by default. Two Pages and Neutral both sell their 100% linen unlined, and Two Pages describes the medium weight cloth as letting daylight filter through softly. The lining is a separate, priced decision.
What does a 60% shading rate actually give you? It lowers the light level at any hour; it does not make a daytime room dark. Two Pages and Neutral both file 60% under Privacy, while Half Price Drapes calls its sewn-in 60% backing room darkening.
